I grew up in Cornwall where, like many boys of my age, I was inspired by Bernard Venables’ book ‘Mr Crabtree Goes Fishing’ to take up the sport. I fished on the moors for wild brown trout and when I moved to Scotland in my early twenties, I fished its lochs, rivers and streams. I’ve been fortunate enough to have fished in Norway, France and more recently, in Bosnia. I now live in Oxfordshire with my wife Nicki and two children together with our much loved working Cocker Spaniel . When I’m not at home, I can be usually found fishing for trout and grayling in the heart of the Cotswolds.

A horticulturist by profession, I have a strong interest in the wider context of angling such as wildlife and conservation. For several years I have undertaken a monthly invertebrate survey on the Coln, reporting to the River Fly Partnership and Environment Agency. I also volunteer helping out the EA on our river with the Electro fishing as well as the stocking and ongoing river maintenance.

My interest in fly-tying started when I was a young lad working in a fishing tackle shop but I didn’t take it up more seriously until around 6 years ago when I joined the Thames Valley Fly Dressers Guild. At the FDG I’ve made many friends and under the umbrella of the Guild I have tied at the BFFI, Sportfish Show, Ifish and various game fairs. Last year however I was asked to join fly tyers row at the RHUG Country Fair and more recently at the Irish fly Fair which was an incredible experience. I’m also a member of the Deer Creek Pro Team

As a passionate angler myself, I am keen to see fishing thrive, and I try to put something back into the sport: I’ve run fly-tying workshops in Cirencester for Trouthouse Fishery and recently qualified as an Angling Trust Level 1 Coach.

I’m predominantly interested in catching trout and grayling and so most of the patterns I tie are small flies using cdc patterns, whilst I still enjoy tying some of the more traditional patterns.

I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to be invited by to tie at this years BFFI and I would like to thank Bridgette and Steve Cooper for allowing me the opportunity to tie alongside so many talented fly tyers helping to promote and inspire others to take up this art. Look forward to seeing you all there.
