Hi I am Trevor Jones, I reside in North Wales, I have fished many of the rivers and lakes of Wales, I first wet a fly line on a small stream close to my family home,( River Alyn) both my Father & Grandfather where avid fly fishermen, so I seemed quite natural to continue the family tradition in the gentle art of fly fishing.
Even now many years later I can still vividly remember my very first fish on the fly, the fly in question was a blue winged olive, not my own tying might I add, but on of my Grandfathers creations, suffice to say I was “hooked”.
That day being long ago, lost in the mists of time, much water has passed under the bridge since, but the journey has been long and fruitful, during that journey, I have had the pleasure of coaching/guiding two national fly fishing teams, South Africa, and Australia, subsequently many lifelong friends have been made, as for my own competition fishing, I have represented Wales in both European & Commonwealth fly fishing championships once as Captain.
Fly dressing has always held a great fascination for me, ever since that first fish, I consider myself a fly tying traditionalist, but one who is prepared to be flexible in my use of traditional materials, which combined with modern synthetics greatly add to many old favourites without overpowering the pattern. I firmly believe the old time flytyers would have approved of such usage.
I visit many of the European Fairs as guest fly tyer on a regular basis, Sweden, Finland, Holland, Ireland for example.
Some of my patterns have gone world wide, and continue to catch fish for many anglers, but more importantly, have inspired many young people to discover the joys of fishing and fly tying.
