Roy Christie
I grew up in Northern Ireland alongside a trout stream; started fishing and tying flies when I was at primary school.
In the 1960′s, following extreme flooding when the wee stream nearly washed away her bridges, she was dredged for the common good. I undertook putting back the rocks so that she would be forever self cleaning.
As a founder member of the Wandle Wands http://www.wandletrust.org/ , I am proud of our ongoing restoration work done on this London river. A set of my flies for the Wandle, framed, resides in The FlyFishers’ Club in London in benefit of the river. In 2005 I had the honour of producing three hundred pairs of flies as used by Admiral Nelson on the river. These sets were presented as memento to all in attendance at our Celebration of Nelson on the Wandle, held at St Paul’s Cathedral, where Nelson is entombed. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/features/oldflies/part366.html
My fly patterns are designed around the impression I believe the trout and grayling see when feeding on natural insects and these have been widely published in Europe, US and Australia. I have demonstrated my techniques for tying reversed parachute; upside down; sideways and back to front flies at many shows across Europe and the US over the past few years and am looking forward to seeing many old and new friends at BFFI 2008.
