I live in a small country village in Suffolk with my two Labradors, and my husband Jonny. It was Jonny who introduced me to fishing back when we first met in 1999. He taught me to lure fish for pike, and after my first adrenaline fuelled pike fight I became a fisherman!
In our 20s we took a year out travelling accompanied by ‘Rod’ and a box of tricks, we fished our way around our travels catching Barramundi, Queen fish, Shovel nose sharks, Blue cod, Trevally and many others. It was whilst we were in New Zealand when I discovered fly fishing and fly tying, when that was 8 years ago, I am happily now part of the Partridge, Foxy Tails, Regal and Bug Bond pro teams.
Jonny and I got married in 2012 and planned our honeymoon as a fly and lure fishing trip for Tiger fish in Zambia, but in the UK we spend most of our spare time fishing for Pike and Chub from our Kayak. If I’m not fishing for Pike or tying flies, I will be watching fishing movies and dreaming. In 2016 Jonny and I spent the summer working in the Reisastua salmon lodge in northern Norway, where we go the chance to chase salmon and I even caught the new Norwegian fly caught halibut record.
In 2015 I was lucky enough to apply for and be chosen to take part in a new BBC television program called Earths Wildest Waters : The Big Fish. I fought my way to the semi final fishing in 5 different countries and had the opportunity to fish for amazing species such as Bone Fish, Tarpon, Rooster Fish and Sail Fish. Despite wining the more technical fly fishing challenge for Canadian Bull Trout in the semi final, I missed out on a place in the final. I hope to inspire more women to take up a rod and give our sport a go!
