Sebastian Letelier

I´m Sebastian Letelier, I born in  Santiago,Chile in 1979. I started to fly fish just when I was a kid about 12 years old....but all change a year later in 1993 ..I was lucky to met Mr. Adrian Dufflocq who turn in to my mentor and friend he shown me lot of aspects about fly fishing and fly tying as well, I still emenbering after I met him in Santiago  he sent to me a boox full of materials so I could have plenty of source to create my trout flies..............he is a pioneer here, he is the first Chilean guide which later started the Cumilahue lodge also first fishing operation ever in the beautiful lake district, his river the Cumilahue just pass by his the garden!!.

At his home I saw for first time salmon flies hung at the wall, that was really a blast .. also he ties Atlantic lanlock salmon type of streamer flies so was the start of a long way till here. I began getting few materials not easy then the learn all,  lot of practice but I never get up!, mainly I  did  my on design  but always inspired in the classics. in the meanwhile with 16 years old I started to work for Rios Azules company, Mr. Dufflocq sons buisness.... and since then I have been guiding in Patagonia in Estancia de los rios Lodge which is im a huge Ranch, which is one of the most beautiful places !!.

After finishing Highschool I decided to study fine arts due that I always have an.....I got the lucky to study from 2000 til 2006 with a  Spanish painter in Chile, Martin Soria ..I learn to work from scratch  prepare the linen  oils, egg tempera, I leant lot,  he turn in to a good friend and mentor too!. So I mainly when I´m not guiding in the off season I do my artwork , I take commisions like anglers portraits , fly fishing scenes, river maps and tie classic salmon flies some can be see at www.sebastianletelier.com

During the last years around 2003  make good advance on my fly tying mainly becasue I could get lot of good materials from my friend Jens Pilgaard as well his advises!,.Also I have been in contact via emails with few tiers abroad and also I participate when I have time in the fly tying forum a great bunch of fellows there!. Lately my tying intereset has focus more in old classic flies since then I start to get interested in salmon fishing also because of a great book that I got “Atlantic salmon atlas” from Roy Arris ( great chap !) & Malcolm Greenhalgh, also I have been helping Noth Atlantic Salmon Fund .. in some auctions with my artwork and flies, I did the artwork for there recently lauched beautiful book “ A celebration of salmon rivers”.

In 2007 finally I got my chance to stay 3 months in Scandinavia and met in person many nice angler and tiers, and I fish the Gaula, Orkla , Laerdalselva in Norway and Eman Sweden thanks to Pelle,   In the time that stay in Norway I did some artwork creating the beat maps  as well do a little guiding for Norwegian fly fishers club that is run by Manfred Raguse a very experienced Salmon angler that also gave me the chance to fish the famous Gaula river ........I did learn a bit about salmon fishing , I got my first salmon there!, at the end of that visit I finally met in person Martin Bach a Danish Salmon fly tier, who as been very  kind in explain me how to tie flies without vise (just by emails). In my visit to Denmark were I met finally Jens Pilgaard  and we tie a Salmon fly  without vise..and fished the Simested Aa Denmark. One of the biggest chaleenge for me has been to become a good salmon fly tier due that in Chile as well in south America is not Salmon fly tier, so I´m the first one.

This year I back to Norway for  paint and learn  with one of the best artist Mr. Odd Nerdrum and then I will be at the British fly fair !!.

Have a good fishing... looking forward to see you at the show, and have an enjoyable time!.

All the best, Sebastian Letelier
