classic fly art
I have been illustrating the flies of great tyers for 5 years now, the start of this obsession coincided with a move to Speyside Scotland. I would never have imagined back then that in five years time I would be illustrating flies from some of the worlds best known tyers, have a website www.classicflyart.com and be attending important shows like the BFFI. At the show I am planning to show some of my latest illustrations based on a great fly fishing classic A.E. Knox's 'Autumns on the Spey', a book with heart and soul.
The book was treasured for its 16 patterns of Spey flies so I persuaded 16 great tyers and spey 'officionados' to recreate one of the patterns. One as per the pattern in the book on a specific hook and another more personal approach and then to send them to me for illustrating, John Shewey, Damian Welsh, Dave Kline, Bud Guidry, Davie McPhail, Philip Glendinning, James Daley, Edward Muzzerol, Alberto Caolozzi, Matt Inman, Mike Boyer, Ari Heikki Rintaniemi, Frank Swarner,Charlie Dickson, Sebastian Letelier and Henrik Strandgaard who is sending one of the last flies he tyed for the classic flyfishers library reprint of the book. You can guess right that my desk these last months has looked awesome with these spread about it..... I will show the flies along with my illustrations.
At the show I will be painting a fly from Stack Scoville, hes a tyer I have had in high regard for a while now so am delighted to be able to meet him and illustrate one of his flies at last. :-)
I have a lot to show so come by and take a look ,Love to chat about the work.
Hope to see you there, Sarah
