I am 61 years old with a fly tying history spanning nearly 50 years, starting at the age of 12.
Having struggled on my own for a number of years I had lessons at night school, like so many others, and found I had a particular flair for fly dressing, winning the Fly Dressers Guild Annual Competition , first in the Beginners category and then the Professional category for two years running. Most of my working life was spent as a River Keeper followed by a period running a small family business, Lathkill Tackle with my wife. I have a number of videos already to my name as well as a book, contributions to several more and a long history of writing for Game Fishing magazines. I have demonstrated both here and abroad in Germany, Holland and the USA.
I am best known for my river dry flies, mainly as a result of my many years working on trout streams but tie almost anything, with a particular liking for Fully Dressed Classic Salmon flies when I have time. I am a fully qualified APGAI instructor and a Licensed Game Angling Coach in Salmon, Trout and Seatrout and Fly Dressing categories and now work for myself as a Fly Fishing Instructor and Guide and, during the winter, give fly tying presentations to clubs around the country. |
