Doug Farthing began tying later in life age 50 - hopefully his tying has improved over the years. Doug began tying trout flies when he lived in the limestone stream area of Southern Missouri. In 2003 he moved to the coast of South Carolina and daddled in salt water fishing before going back to brook trout and small mouth bass fishing in the mountains of Western South Carolina. Doug's favorite fishing is north counrty patterns fished upstream ala W. C Stewart. Doug's old favorite fly the hare's lug and plover has changed because of Doug's tinkering with lynx mask- it is now the lynx mask and plover. Doug has found lynx mask a good material to use on caddis, emerger and hare's lug patterns because of its spikier hair and ability to hold air bubbles well.
Doug is a life member of the Federation of Fly Fishers and a member of the Fly Dressers Guild. He tied at the last 7 Chatsworth Angling Fairs and looks forward to returning to the UK. His work has appeared in12-15 books and Magazines.
